COURSE DESCRIPTION: This introductory activity-based, year-long course provides an in-depth study of selected topics in earth and physical sciences. This course is designed to prepare students for success in college prep Biology in Grade 10. This course meets 10 of the 20 required credits in science to graduate. Students will meet physical science requirement for graduation upon completion of both semesters with a passing grade.

DATES: Monday, June 22, 2009 through Thursday, July 30, 2009 (24 Days)

SCHEDULE: Monday through Thursday (School sites closed on Fridays)

HOURS: 7:30 am – 1:15

ABSENCES: In order to earn credit, students may not have more than 1 absence per 12-day semester. One absence equals 3 points. Students arriving to class after the first half hour, or students who miss more than one-half hour, will be marked absent. It is essential that students arrive to class on time daily. Each tardy equals 1 point, THREE tardies are equivalent to ONE ABSENCE (3 points). Students who return late from scheduled breaks will be considered tardy. Students may not exceed a total of 5 accumulated points (any combination of absences or tardies). Students exceeding 5 points WILL BE DROPPED from the class on the sixth point. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY.

 A variety of materials are offered online for both students and parents alike.  Lecture notes and Chapter PowerPoint presentations are available to students on the Homework Page as well as most worksheets, labs, and other miscellaneous handouts.  Students who have missed class can now easily get themselves "caught up" with the rest of the class by reviewing and/or downloading the materials online.
